Fabric and louver samples held up against a window in daylight

Choosing · Seeing it first

Seeing it in your room, not a render

Screens lie about colour. The reliable way to know how a fabric looks in your house is to hold it up in your house, which is what the consultation is for.

Why we do it this way

Colour on a screen is a guess.

Every monitor and every phone renders colour differently, and none of them know what your room's daylight is doing. A warm white that looks crisp on a laptop can read distinctly yellow on a north-facing wall at four in the afternoon. Online visualizers are genuinely useful for narrowing a style down — they are not reliable for the final choice, and anybody telling you otherwise has not had the phone call afterwards.

So we bring the physical samples: fabric swatches, louver sections, stain and paint chips, hardware. We hold them against your actual window, in your actual light, next to your actual trim and floor. It takes ten minutes of the consultation and it is the part people say afterwards made the difference.

What to do before we arrive

Three things that help enormously.

None are required. All make the visit shorter and the choice better.

  • Save a few picturesScreenshots of rooms you like, from anywhere. We do not need you to know the terminology — showing us three images tells us more than a paragraph of description.
  • Think about rooms, not products"The bedroom needs to be properly dark and the living room gets brutal afternoon sun" is far more useful to us than a product name. Let us match the product to the problem.
  • Have the whole house in scopeEven if you only intend to do two rooms now. Measuring everything costs nothing extra and means you have real pricing when you come back to the rest.

Questions

Asked and answered.

Do you have an online visualizer?

Not one we would ask you to make a final decision from. Manufacturer visualizers are fine for narrowing down a style, and we are happy to point you at one — but we will always bring the physical samples, because that is what actually settles it.

Can you leave samples with me?

Usually yes, for the shortlist. Living with three swatches taped to the window for a couple of days is a genuinely good way to choose, and we would rather you did that than rushed it.

How long does the consultation take?

About an hour for most houses — longer if there are forty-plus openings or a lot of shaped windows. That includes measuring everything, going through samples and producing the quote.
